With a thoroughly dominating display, Maharashtra -- who won 17 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze medals -- garnered 344 points to emerge champions for the second year on the trot. They had won the title last year in Kolkata.

Karnataka (7 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze) could muster only 209 points and were relegated to the third place by Tamil Nadu, who took the second spot with 227 points.
On the final day, Damini K Gowda, who was adjudged the best swimmer of the championship in the girls’ section, erased two national marks. The Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre swimmer took her tally of gold to six, including one in the 4x50M freestyle relay. She also created five national records in the 50M backstroke, 200 individual medley, 50 butterfly, 50 and 100 freestyle events.
