Mayookha had threatened the national record with efforts of 13.71  in the first two meets but fell short of a medal. On Sunday, the 23-year-old went a step further, producing a superb effort of 14.02 metres to erase M A Prajusha’s record of 13.72. But she narrowly missed out on the qualifying mark (14.10M) for the Olympics as well as the World Championships. China’s Limei Xie took the gold with 14.16 while compatriot Li Yanmei claimed silver with 14.05.

Mayookha smashed the national mark with her first-round jump itself, kicking the sand at 13.97 metres. She then fouled her next four attempts before coming up with the performance of the day for India.

Ghamanda Ram repeated his silver-winning show in the men’s 800 while compatriot Sajeesh Joseph picked up the bronze. Ghamanda timed 1:49.45, just ahead of Sajeesh who clocked 1:49.74. Seema Antil took bronze in women’s discus with a 51.45M effort.
