Umpire Ravi passes away

Senior cricket umpire Ravi Subramanyam passed away at the age of 51 due to a cardiac arrest here at his residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Sunday.

Ravi became a BCCI-qualified umpire in 1991 and was a member of the BCCI panel. Son of former Test umpire M G Subraman­yam, Ravi is survived by his wife and daughter.

Ravi officiated in close to 100 first-class matches. Ravi, who was a former president of the Association of Cricket Umpires Karnataka (ACUK), has the unique accomplishment of having officiated in the final of Ranji Trophy, Irani Cup, Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy in the same season.

“His death came as a shock to me. I have lost a close friend. We have officiated in lot of matches together,” said veteran umpire Shavir Tarapore.
