About 2,500 students have been denied permission to take the II PU exams, that will commence Friday, due to a shortage of attendance.

Students appearing for the II PU exams are expected to have a minimum of 75 % attendance failing which they will not be permitted to take exams. Last year, 3,700 students were denied admission tickets for the said reason.

These students will not have any concession, clarified P C Jaffer, director, PU Education. “We have a strict attendance policy and it has to be adhered to,” he said.

Principals of the respective colleges were directed to submit the hall tickets of students, who do not meet the required attendance, to the department.

In 2017, the PU board had issued circular asking colleges to have meetings with parents at various intervals throughout the academic year and brief them about their wards attendance to avoid facing the problem.

Among the disciplinary measures that will be in place during exams to curb malpractice, students are not allowed to wear any smartwatches to exam halls. Only analogue watches would be permitted inside the venue according to officials.

A similar decision has been taken for Class X exams as well. As per the rule, students cannot write in two languages in the answer script. They ought to write in the medium selected by them.

In order to ensure smooth conduct of exams, DCs and SPs of the respective districts have been told to identify sensitive and highly sensitive exam centres and keep a strict vigil on them.

Also, exam centres should have CCTV cameras to prevent any malpractice.
