AAP betraying people of Delhi: Sadananda Gowda

Last Updated 12 June 2015, 21:36 IST

Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said on Friday that the AAP government was “betraying” the people of Delhi.

Speaking to mediapersons here, he said that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party had promised to run a corruption-free government but had “failed” to do the same. This is evident from several incidents that have occurred ever since Kejriwal took charge as the chief minister of Delhi, he added.

The minister added that the Narendra Modi government hadn’t “conspired” to arrest AAP ministers including Jitendra Singh Tomar, who was accused in the fake degree case. He also slammed the party for being in a constant state of confrontation with the government at the Centre from the beginning.

“The fake degree certificate issue was known to the police even two months ago. Only after getting hold of all particulars, feedback from universities and other places, have they gone ahead with the investigation,” he stated.

He also said that it was not fair to comment on the Tomar issue at this juncture. “I hope truth will come out after the investigation,” he added.

When asked about the Land Acquisition Bill, he said that the matter is before a parliamentary standing committee.

The panel chairman has called for a meeting of all chief ministers. “Let the report come out. We have referred the matter to the committee and it will be discussed soon,” he added.

Jaya eyeing polls: Union minister

Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has said that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha was taking up the Cauvery issue only because she had her eyes on elections in that state.

Since elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly will be held next year, the Tamil Nadu chief minister is trying to rake up the Cauvery river issue, Gowda stated. The Tamil Nadu government recently approached the Supreme Court accusing the Karnataka government of polluting the Cauvery river.
