Action against ‘absentee’ engineers, says DKS

Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar on Tuesday said it had come to his notice that a few engineers in his department were spending time in bars, when they should have been in office.

“Disciplinary action will be initiated against them. I have told my senior officers to keep track of the whereabouts of the engineers,” Shivakumar told reporters here.

He said strict instruction had been given to engineers to keep a detailed record of grants spent on various projects. Progress of ongoing projects should be videographed and sent to the department headquarters.

Poor quality work will not be tolerated, he added.

He said, with the onset of summer, an action plan will be worked out on the allocation of water in various reservoirs for drinking purposes and irrigation.

Steps will be taken to fill tanks in pockets facing water shortage, Shivakumar added.
