A team of forensic sciences experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, is in the City to assist the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its probe into the unnatural death of IAS officer D K Ravi.

The three-member team led by Dr Sudhir Gupta, head of the department, forensic sciences, AIIMS, visited Ravi’s flat at St John’s Wood apartment in Koramangala on Monday, where he was found hanging from a ceiling fan on March 16.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Dr Gupta said, “We have checked the ceiling fan from which Ravi’s body was hanging and also gathered details about the accessibility of the point of suspension and those about the support taken with the chair. We have also collected all possible videographs available at the scene.”

The team, which included Dr Adarsh Kumar, additional professor, and Dr Abhishek, assistant professor in the forensic sciences department, also interacted with experts from the forensic sciences department in Victoria Hospital, where autopsy of Ravi’s body was conducted. The forensic experts also took details of post-mortem reports. The team from Victoria Hospital, headed by Dr Venkataraghavan, had conducted the autopsy.

“We have discussed with the case with them and taken the reports. It might take about two weeks’ time to analyse the materials and give a consolidated opinion. It is premature to say anything now,” Gupta said, when he was asked whether they suspected foul play in Ravi’s death.

According to CBI sources, the report of the autopsy conducted by the State government had mentioned that the death occurred due to hanging. But the CBI has not yet concluded whether or not it was a suicide. Political parties, various organisations and Ravi’s parents had claimed that the IAS officer had not committed suicide but was murdered. Some of them had claimed that after murdering Ravi, his body was hung from the ceiling fan.
