The KJP on Wednesday alleged that the State Cabinet’s decision to allow transport of sand from the three coastal districts of the State to Goa and Lakshadweep reeked of corruption and would severely escalate the prices of sand in the State.

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, KJP President B S Yeddyurappa and former Public Works minister C M Udasi alleged that the government’s move to allow transport of sand from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts was detrimental to the interests of the State. Yeddyurappa said the decision to allow transport of sand outside the State at a time when there was severe shortage of the construction raw material raised suspicion.

“It seems after its debacle in the urban local body elections, the BJP is going all out for monetary benefits. Files are being cleared and decisions taken as if there is no tomorrow,” Yeddyurappa said.

He demanded that the government immediately withdraw the decision. The former chief minister said that the KJP was planning to approach the court, challenging the government’s move.
