With the Union Ministry of Transport and Highways clearing the decks for four-lane Bangalore-Mysore State highway (SH), which further connects Calicut via Sultanbattery, as National Highway (NH), it awaits the State government’s No Objection Certificate before being formally declared so.

The Ministry of Transport and Highways has issued a preliminary notification declaring it a national highway and the final notification will be issued after the State government issues the NoC.

The preliminary notification comes soon after the Rs 330-crore annuity basis contract of 140-km Bangalore-Mysore Road expired in March 2014.

The State government had put forth the proposal over 10 years ago, as it did not have funds to upgrade the road to six lanes and also maintain it, sources in the Public Works Department told Deccan Herald.

There is also a proposal to make Bangalore-Mysore Road elevated till Srirangaptana due to problems with existing tolled expressway. Presently, only 40 km of the road is express highway and the rest is not.

Bangalore-Mysore State highway has a passenger car unit of over 3,600 per hour.
