Last Updated 26 June 2012, 18:58 IST

The district administration has declared Sambra and surrounding areas in the district as ‘cholera affected.’

The measure comes in the wake of an increase in the instances of diarrhoea in the region.

The residents have been advised to drink boiled water. Sale of cut fruits, meat, fairs and weekly shandies have been banned.

The deputy commissioner has directed the district health and family welfare officer to constitute a team of doctors in all villages.

The gram panchayats too have been asked to take precautionary measures to check the spread of the epidemic.
