Crop loan waiver, Lokayukta restoration, among BJP poll promises

Crop loan waiver up to Rs one lakh including those availed from national banks and restoring the office of the Lokayukta to its full “efficacy” are among some of the promises made in the BJP manifesto released on Friday.

The manifesto for the May 12 polls stated that the two promises will be implemented at the very first meeting of the State Cabinet, if the BJP is voted to power.

In all, the manifesto deals with 14 sectors including farmers, women empowerment, youth, good governance, education, health, infrastructure, economy, culture, environment besides an exclusive chapter on Bengaluru. The manifesto was released by BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa.

Some highlights in manifesto:

  • “Negilayogi Yojane” to provide direct income support of Rs 10,000 to 20 lakh dry land small and marginal farmers.
  • Rs 10,000 crore “Stree Unnati” fund to set up one of the largest women run cooperatives and establish “Stree Unnati” stores to market its products at district and taluk headquarters.
  • A scheme to provide Rs 25,000 and three grams of gold for brides coming under the BPL category during the marriage
  • The opening of “Annapurna Canteens” has also been promised.
  • Pass a new law “Nava Bengaluru Act” to cater to the new needs of Bengaluru.
