45,234 new voters enrolled in Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency

Deputy Commissioner Dr Muddu Mohan has said that as many as 45,234 fresh voters applications have been accepted in Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency out of the total received 45,882 applications, till March 26, the last date for enrollment for voters’ list.

Speaking to media persons, the DC said that district-wise applications include - 23,804 (Udupi district), of which 23,329 were accepted and 22,378 fresh applications were received in Chikmagalur district, of which 21,905 were accepted.

He added that all 23 nominations by 14 candidates were scrutinized and accepted. Under violation of poll code of conduct, unaccounted money to the tune of Rs 20 lakh was seized near West Coast Nursery at Ucchila in Bada village while transporting in a lorry and a case has been filed against the lorry driver Shantharam Shetty.

Around one-lakh pamphlets of BJP have been seized and case has been filed against Deeas graphics, Udupi, under Section 127 A of Representatives of Peoples Act 1951. As many as 160 raids were conducted in connection with illegal liquor trafficking, while 45 accused were arrested in 64 cases.

Of the 4,112 weapons in Udupi district, 4,031 weapons have been deposited.

Poll arrangements

Dr Muddu Mohan elaborated that 1,540 ballot units and 1,210 control units have been kept ready while 107 EVMs are reserved for emergency situations. Postal ballot facilities will be offered to 240 service voters. The police observer Dr M Ravi will arrive soon to take charge in the district, he added.

CEO Kanagavalli said attempts are made to reach out to voters through SVEEP in all possible means. Six colleges were contacted for the purpose. Messages are being disseminated through auto-rickshaws in CMC area.

As many as 32,000 pamphlets were distributed through ASHA workers. Besides, 67 Anganavadis were contacted for the purpose. Around 7,000 pamphlets were distributed in Malpe Harbour. SMS messages urging to exercise in polling process were sent to 1,000 farmers, she added.
