If not Devanahalli, Tumkur may get IT park: Katta

Special housing scheme for teachers, police on anvil
Last Updated 08 February 2010, 18:44 IST

The park is being developed with the assistance of Central government.
He was talking to mediapersons during his visit to town on Monday. He visited Kolar and Chikkaballapur to inspect the place identified to build houses in the districts.
With Devanahalli farmers demanding Rs 50 lakh per acre, the government is finding it difficult to purchase the lands for the park. The government has already identified 12,000 acres of land but the government will not make a move against farmers’ wishes.
Minister Katta said if the government has to pay Rs 50 lakh per acre, it would cost Rs 1.5 crore to the government to develop one acre of park.

“This would certainly discourages the investors,” he reasoned.
The Union government is ready to develop various industries if the government provides 40 sq mts. If it is implemented, it would ensure employment to 25 lakh in the country and also alternative jobs to 15 lakh people.

However, considering the whopping demand for land price, the government has already identified three alternative places - Tumkur, Ramnagar or Hoskote to have the IT park, he said.
“However, no final decision has been taken in this regard,” he stated.

Special housing scheme
Housing scheme will prioritised in this year’s Budget tobe presented by CM Yeddyurappa with a view to provide houses for the homeless, said the minister. A special housing scheme will be implemented by the government, he added. Quality will be emphasised in housing scheme and stringent action will be taken against officials for lack of quality houses.

Houses for police
Here is a good news to teachers and police. The government has decided to build houses at low cost to police and teachers, who are unable to own one. The scheme will be implemented soon, the minister added.
