Kerala CM assures steps to include Tulu in 8th schedule

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the cultural programme organised as a part of Akhila Kerala Tulu Sammelan held on Wednesday at Tiruvananthapuram by Kasargod Kerala Tulu Academy, Achuthanandan said that the Academy must try and bring Tulu lipi back to usage because there is a misconception that there is no Tulu lipi.

‘Promote local languages’

“Globalisation has uprooted local languages and cultures. Hence, efforts must be made to strengthen local languages,” he said. Academy President Dr P Venkataraj Punichittaya’s book ‘Tulu Karna Varna’ was released by the Chief Minister.

State Education and Culture Minister M A Baby presided over the programme. He said that Government must provide monetary aid to Yakshagana, which is an inseparable part of Tulu culture.

Opposition leader in the Kerala Assembly Ommen Chandy, Minister K P Rajendran, N K Prem-chandran, Ramachandran Kadannapalli, MLA C H Kunhabbu, K Munhiraman, Pallupram Balan and others were present. The programme was inaugurated by Kerala Law Minister M Vijay Kumar. Academy President Dr P Venkatraj Punnichithaya presided over the inaugural programme.
