'Mild tremors' felt in Mandya, Chamarajanagar

Richter scale at KRS dam indicates no signs of quake

Mild tremors, for a few seconds were reported from Malavalli and Maddur taluks in Mandya district and Kollegal, Yalandur, Hanur and Male Mahadeshwara Betta in Chamarajanagar district, on Tuesday.

Residents went through anxious moments as they felt household articles and equipment rattle for a few seconds. Most residents panicked and ran out of their houses. Some even complained of cracks on the walls of their houses.

In Malavalli taluk, tremors were felt at 7.30 am at NES and Gangamatha layouts and Basaveshwara temple in Malavalli town. There were complaints of minor cracks on the walls of five houses in the town. Similar reports were reported from Nagegowdanadoddi, Okkarahalli, Honagahalli, Vasuvalli and Dalavoykodihalli.

Maddur
Similarly, residents felt tremors for a few seconds at 7.40 am at several villages in Maddur taluk —  Valagerehalli, Kudurgundi, Tylooru, Aluru, Marasinganahalli, Besagarahalli, Anedoddi, Maraliga, Koppa, Abalavadi, Nambinayakanahalli, Gollaradoddi and Ballakere.

In Chamarajanagar
Parts of Chamarajanagar district too felt tremors for two to three seconds on Tuesday. Tremors were felt at Housing Board Colony, Agrahara Beedi, Shankanapura and other places in the city.

Kollegal, Sattegala, Yalandur, Tallanuru, Hanur, Male Mahadeshwara Betta and surrounding villages too experienced tremors between 7.30 am and 7.45 am. However, no damages have been reported from both the districts.

Nagabushan, a senior scientist with the Mines and Geology department, visited several villages after receiving information about the tremors in the region. Speaking to DH, he said that the Richter scale installed at the KRS Dam for measuring earthquakes has not indicated any tremors in the region.

There were nonetheless, mixed reactions from residents of the villages when officials of the Mines and Geology department visited the spot. While some claimed they felt the tremors, some others said that they did not had any such experience.
