Mysore to be 'Sampoorna' model

Here is a piece of good news for women in Mysore district, with the district selected as model region to implement ‘Sampoorna’ a project aimed at women empowerment.


Participating in a training programme organised for the district level officers on ‘Complete India- Political leadership of women in Asia; encouraging gender sensitive governance’ at Abdul Nazeer Saab State Institute for Rural Development (ANSSIRD) on Wednesday, deputy director Ashraful Hassan said Mysore is one among two other districts- Dharwad and Uttara Kannada selected as model districts. Karnataka is one among five States in the nation where the programme is being implemented.


As is the project, 100 gram panchayats in every district will be selected under the programme. Primary preference would be given to education of women, health and hygiene, law and rights, economic empowerment and food practice. The officers entrusted with the task of taking the programmes to the doorstep of the people in  block level have to work on bringing women into the mainstream and also change the mindset of the society towards them and also take steps to improve their life style.  


In view of empowering women, the government will be recommended for making a joint khata of both men and women in the family. DRDA planning director Munirajappa said home should be the launch point to free women from the shackles of the society.

Tukaram from State resource centre spoke on gender; species, discrimination and mainstream, while M C Shylaja from ANSSIRD spoke on empowerment of women in politics- challenges and techniques, and chief planning officer of ZP spoke on ‘role of prominent departments in encouraging gender sensitive governance. Sarveshwar conducted the programme on ‘gender bias.’
