The Corporation has marked nine meters of land on both sides of the B M Road in the town. Most of the buildings within nine meters have already been vacated. In the first phase of work, the road was widened between the outskirts of Kushalnagar and Madikeri.
Hubli based RNN Company is taking up the second phase of road development work in Kushalnagar.
The road between Kushalnagar and Sampaje will be widened in the second phase. The work of shifting electric poles has already been started.
Earlier, there was a plan to develop the road into 14 metres wide. However, later the plan has been modified to 18 metres. Officials said that 14 cms thick concrete will be laid above the grit stones foundation of 48 cms.
As many as 300 labourers are engaged in the work, officials said adding that work will be completed by December 15.
The work suffered setback at some places since people are not willing to handover land. The traffic in Kushalnagar town has been made one way during day time to facilitate the widening work.
