Showers cool down Gadag district

Various parts of Gadag district received heavy rainfall accompanied with gusty winds and hailstorm on Thursday evening.

Shirhatti recieved heavy rainfall, it drizzled for some time in Gadag-Betageri twin cities, Naregal, Dambal, Mulgund hobli and the surrounding areas.

The district received its first showers during summer which has brought respite to the people from the scorching heat. A tree was uprooted near Holalapur village. Hailstorm obstructed traffic for some time. Farmers are hopeful that the region would receive further rainfall in the forthcoming days.

Dank weather prevailed throughout the day in most parts of the district and finally the skies opened up towards evening.

A dried-up tree was uprooted and fell over a power line disrupting power supply in Betageri. Several areas, including Vivekananda Layout, plunged into darkness, due to disruption in the power supply.

It drizzled for some time in Naregal hobli bringing relief to the people from the soaring mercury levels. For the last one week the district has recorded 38 degree Celsius. People are praying for more showers so that the drinking water problem can be mitigated to some extent in the rural areas.
