Drop Tipu Jayanthi, BJP tells govt

BJP leader and former deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa on Tuesday said that his party will not keep quite if the state government goes ahead with the Tipu Jayanthi celebrations.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Eshwarappa said, “We urge the government to drop the celebrations. However, if they go ahead, we as the principal opposition party, know what to do.”

Eshwarappa said in the past too there had been an opposition to the celebrations.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara had said the government will hold Tipu Jayanthi celebrations across the state next month.

The BJP had made it a poll issue during the Assembly polls held earlier this year.
