The Central Water Commission on Thursday issued a flood alert for Cauvery basin areas after Karnataka decided to increase the quantum of water to be released to Mettur dam from KRS and Kabini reservoirs, reports DHNS from New Delhi.
“In view of the heavy rain in Karnataka and Kerala, there is likelihood of heavy release of water from Kabini and KRS reservoirs. The combined discharge of more than one lakh cusecs is expected to reach Mettur dam within two days. Suitable precautionary steps may be taken and downstream areas informed of the release,” said a advisory issued by the Commission.
