JOIN USThe government aims to generate 1,000 MW through solar energy over the next 15 months. It proposes to call tenders for 450-500 MW next week, Energy Minister D K Shivakumar said.
Briefing reporters here on Thursday, Shivakumar said the government had lined up several initiatives as part of the revised solar policy 2014-2021. In addition, it was also looking at promoting solar farms. However, this would have to be developed by ensuring farmers do not lose their land.
To facilitate this, the government will play an intervening role between private companies and the farmer.
“Companies will be permitted to generate power by retaining the land with the farmer. The farmer would get the rental and the ownership will rest with him,” he said.
They would require five acres to generate 1 mw power and hope to see sufficient participation, he added.
The minister also announced the schedule of Green Summit, organised by Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI).
The event aims at promoting renewable energy in the state and will be held from June 5 to 7, 2014 at White Orchid Convention Centre. The sessions will focus on current issues in renewable energy.
The summit is expected to see participation of over 500 delegates and more than 100 investors. According to FKCCI, participants have registered from Peru, Korea, China and Canada.
