HC disposes of plea on Modi biopic

The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday disposed of the public interest litigation seeking stay on the release of the film ‘PM Narendra Modi’ in Karnataka.

The court said that a representation has been submitted by the petitioner to the Election Commission of India and the court to interfere in this matter. Only the Election Commission can take any action in this regard, it said.

The court was hearing a PIL filed by Ramesh Naik, an advocate who had moved the court seeking stay on the release slated to be released on April 5.

The petition had sought for directions to the Election Commission to direct the filmmakers to stay the release of the movie in Karnataka until the completion of the election process in the state.

The petitioner had also contended that the intention behind releasing the movie, at a time when the election code of conduct is in force, is to influence the voters and garner support for the political party.
