The Karnataka High Court on Monday issued a notice to the state government, the Director General and Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police while hearing a petition seeking directions to the police to prevent illegal trading and slaughtering of cattle during the Bakrid festival.

Justice Aravind Kumar was hearing a petition filed by the Gau Gyan Foundation. The petitioner has also sought directions to the police to deploy special squads to monitor and take action against those involved in illegal slaughtering of cattle throughout the state.

The petitioner further sought for a direction to the police to cooperate with the Animal Welfare Board officers and to assist them by registering complaints and take action against the violators. The Additional Advocate General submitted before the court that the police department has already issued a circular stating the preventive measure to be taken by police to prevent any such illegal activities.

The court orally asked the state government to send special vigilance squads to areas like Shivajinagar, JJ Nagar and DJ Halli among others.
