Heavy rain coupled with thunder and gusty winds brought respite from the sweltering heat.
Farmers had been in a quandary since it had not rained even by the end of June.
Saturday’s rain will trigger farming activities in the district.
A 55-year-old woman was washed away in a pond between Mulgund and Neelgund. Bharamavva was returning home from her lands and was unable to gauge the water flow in the pond.
The rescue attempts made my Adiveppa, her husband, went in vain.
He saved himself from drowning by holding on to a tree by the side of the pond.
The body of Bharavamma was traced about a km away from the place where she drowned. Mulgund police have registered a case.
Kodagu
Kodagu received rainfall for an hour on Sunday bringing relief for the people reeling under scorching sun.
Agricultural activities have been affected in Kodagu district owing to the delay in onset of monsoon. Special rituals were held at Omakareshwara Temple to propitiate the Rain God.
Mysore
Parts of Mysore district received scattered rains on Sunday.
Maximum rainfall of 31.5 mm was recorded in Maddur taluk of Mandya district.
However, the showers were restricted to a particular area. Parts of Mandya taluk received 11.5 mm isolated rainfall.
Chamarajanagar taluk recorded 20 mm of rainfall while it rained 4 mm, 3.5 mm and one mm in parts of Gundlupet, Kollegal and Yelandur.
Parts of Sakleshpur in Hassan district recorded 15.5 mm of rainfall. Arsikere taluk too received some showers during the day.
