Hassan district has bagged the national Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Panchayat Award, presented by the Union Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, for the empowerment of local bodies.
The ministry has identified Hassan district for the prestigious award as Hassan Zilla Panchayat has achieved excellence in empowering Gram and Taluk Panchayats in all its forms. The award will be presented at a ceremony in New Delhi on April 24.
Hassan Zilla Panchayat has been successful in utilising the funds released by the government in an effective manner. Besides, it has maintained cleanliness and hygiene, provided all basic amenities like drinking water and toilets in rural areas, said the officials.
Similarly, Pandavapura taluk in Mandya district; Bengaluru East division, Bengaluru Urban district; Thammanakere Grama Panchayat in Haveri district; Yadaganahalli Grama Panchayat in Maddur taluk, Mandya district; Karanakuppe Grama Panchayat in Hunsur taluk, Mysuru district; too have been selected for various awards.
