Two persons attached to the commercial tax office (CTO) here were trapped red-handed by Lokayukta sleuths while demanding a bribe on Monday.

The arrested are commercial tax officer Vijayalakshmamma and commercial tax inspector Mamatha.

Lokayukta officials said Nadeem Mohammed Khan of Just Kids on Dewan’s road in the city had filed a complaint against the duo, alleging that the officials were demanding a bribe to issue permission for unloading a stock of children’s clothes, which had arrived from Coimbatore.

Objections

The duo allegedly told Nadeem Mohammed Khan that he would have to pay Rs 45,000 as penalty as the lorry transporting the stock had no invoice and e-sugam number.

Later, the officials bargained and asked the trader to pay Rs 20,000 for unloading the stock.
Bargaining further, they decided on Rs 4,000 as the amount for releasing the stock.
Lokayukta officials arrested the duo on Monday morning when inspector Mamatha was receiving the bribe on the CTO premises.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Lokayukta superintendent of police Jagadish Prasad comprising Dy SP G K Rashmi, inspectors Victor and Dharmendra.
