Giving details about the awards, Mangalore Konkans senior Member Manohar Pais said the Association donates Rs 10 lakh as corpus funds towards the awards — Sandesha Award for Konkani Music (Rs 5 lakh) and Scholarship for economically backward outstanding student of Sandesha College in the field of fine arts (Rs 5 lakh) — in memory of late Konkan Kogull Wilfy Rebimbus for the blooming musicians in the Sandesha College of Fine Arts.

While Sandesha Director Fr Valerian Mendonca and Trustee P M Castelino signed the MoU on behalf of Sandesha Foundation, Mangalore Konkans Chief Coordinator Valerian Peris and former president James Mendonca signed on behalf of Mangalore Konkans. Later, Valerian Peris handed over the cheques to Fr Valerian Mendonca. The awards will be given from the interest accrued from the fund of Rs 5 lakh each donated towards the awards.

Earlier, a minute’s silence was observed to pay tribute to Wilfy Rebimbus, who passed away on March 9, 2010.

Vishwas Rebimbus, son of Wilfy Rebimbus, thanked members of Mangalore Konkans and Sandesha for their initiative.

Presiding over the programme, Fr Muller Medical College Administrator Fr Denis D’Sa said that Wilfy was running a race of Konkani culture and music and now he has handed over the baton to Sandesha and Mangalore Konkans. “Now, these two organisations have to continue to run the race and they have made a good beginning,” he said. Mangalore Konkans Vice President Linus Moras, former president James Mendonca and Roy Castelino were present. Leslie Rego compered the programme.
