The failure on the part of Karnataka State Dr Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing Arts University, to distribute original marks card and convocation certificates to the successful students, has prompted strong reactions from them.

A section of such students who brought the issue to the notice of media persons, soon after a press meet convened by the Vice-chancellor Sarvamangala Shankar at her office, concluded on Friday, levelled a series of allegations.

Parvathi Joshi, who had completed her graduation from the varsity in 2014, said that the temporary marks cards issued by the varsity was not being recognised. “Even after submitting several petitions to the vice chancellor and other authorities, it has fallen on deaf ears,” said Parvathi.

About 50 students who had completed their graduation and post-graduation at the varsity, since its inception in 2008, are yet to receive their marks cards and certificates. It is due to the statutes of the varsity that awaits approval from the Governor, also the chancellor of the varsity. The lacklustre approach of the varsity to sort out the problems faced by the students has raised concerns, she said.

Another student Sameer Rao said that the atmosphere at the varsity was not conducive to pursue studies. “There is no permanent staff at the varsity and guest lecturers conduct classes. There are lack of adequate facilties at the library, while the students are denied opportunities to display their skills,” she said.

Raghu, another student, urged the varsity to take steps for the construction of new building and to ensure that all tools to aid the learning of students is present at the varsity.
