Karnataka Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has now quickened the pace of ration card distribution in Kodagu district. Of the 16,377 online applications submitted in the district in the last few months, the Department has already distributed 2,221 cards.

The officers have taken steps to distribute cards to the pending applicants. Mobile SMSes have been sent to the applicants asking them to visit the card distribution centers for bio-metric test and capturing photographs. Franchise companies have been chosen in five centers in the district apart from the taluk offices and Gram Panchayat offices, for biometric and photograph purposes. Two companies have been selected in Madikrei and one each in Virajpet, Somwarpet and Kushalnagar.

The photographs are being captured at Rajadhani Communications near Madikeri KSRTC bus stand, Amulya Enterprises near Omkareshwara temple, Srinidhi Enterprises at Virajpet, G J Computers at Somwarpet and Sri Bhagandeshwara Systems Company in Kushalnagar. The ration card is handed over to the applicants within a few days of undergoing biometric test and capturing of photographs. At present, the district has 1.83 lakh ration card holders which includes, 1.15 lakh BPL card holders, 5,000 Antyodaya card and 72,000 APL card holders.

According to the available documents, as many as 2,701 applications have been rejected in the district in the last few months. The applications were rejected due to the problems pertaining to RR number and the card holders re-applying for ration card.

The district administration has announced August 31 as the last date for the applicants who have received SMSes to undergo biometric test and capture the photographs. Department Deputy Director Rajanna informed that the government will accept applications from those who had submitted online applications, but the applications were rejected due to technical problems.

He has also warned of cancelling applicants and temporary ration cards of those who have failed to undergo biometric test and photography process within specified time.
