Kumaraswamy visits Shivakumar in hospital

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy visits Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar at the hospital to enquire about his health. He was accompanied by Cooperation Minister Bandeppa Kashempur and JD(S) MLA C N Balakrishna.

Amidst a packed schedule, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy took time to visit his ministerial colleague D K Shivakumar at the hospital, this morning.

Water Resource Minister D K Shivakumar, who is facing the threat of arrest by the Central agencies, was admitted to the Apollo hospital in Sheshadripuram on Tuesday for acute gastroenteritis, following a suspected case of food poisoning.

However, when BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra levelled charges that Shivakumar was transferring money illegally to the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the Minister took permission from his doctors to address a press conference.

Shivakumar, who took on the BJP all guns blazing, accused it of trying to destabilise the JD(S)-Congress government. He said that the BJP was targeting him because he had become the stumbling block in its 'Operation Kamala' mission, and that it wanted to get him out of the way.

He had also claimed that he hadn't gotten himself hospitalised (as was being speculated) fearing arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED has filed a case against him for money laundering. Shivakumar, who is back at the hospital, might be discharged in a day or two.

Though Kumaraswamy and Shivakumar have been arch political rivals over the last two decades, they have resolved differences and made peace with each other, because Shivakumar was instrumental in forming the coalition government.

Shivakumar had ensured that Congress MLAs don't defect to the BJP during Kumaraswamy's floor test.
