JOIN USThe Second District and Sessions Court awarded death sentence to T N Suresh Babu alias Soori (25) who was convicted in an attempt to rape and murder case of a schoolgirl in Malur, on Saturday.
The court has disposed of the case in 45 days. The convict had attempted to rape the girl and later murdered her on August 1. Students and members of various organisations had launched an intense agitation across district soon after the incident.
The Malur police had arrested Suresh Babu three days after the incident and filed charge sheet in 23 days. The court completed the trial in 22 days and had reserved the judgement for Saturday.
Judge B S Rekha, declared that the charge against Suresh Babu has been proved and he has been convicted in the case. The police took away Suresh Babu, who was disturbed after hearing the judgement.
Mentioning about the Nirbhaya case in the judgement, the judge said the Malur incident is also equally serious. The age of the victim or the convicted person is not important. He has been given death sentence based on the cruelty of the offence on the lines of the Nirbhaya case, the judge mentioned in the order.
