4 arrested for stealing retired Army officer’s rifles

Madikeri city police have arrested four people in connection with the theft of a single and a double barrel rifle from a retired Army officer’s house on Mysuru Road in Madikeri.

Sulliyada Deepu Kumar from Rudrabeedu village, Virajpet taluk, Acchapanda Monnappa from Heggala village, Kambeyanda Ponnappa from Talattamane, Madikeri taluk and T M Suber from Heggala village are the accused.

The theft of rifles took place on March 8 at the residence of retired Army officer K G Utttaiah. The single barrel rifle costs Rs 1 lakh and the price of the double barrel is Rs 1.50 lakh, as given in the complaint submitted by Uttaiah. A case was registered in Madikeri city police station.

A single barrel rifle and a vehicle used for the theft have been seized. Another rifle is yet to be confiscated, said the police.
