Members of the District Congress Committee observed the 102nd birth anniversary of former prime minister Indira Gandhi at the district Congress office on Tuesday.

Congress social media district head Suraj Hosuru said that Indira Gandhi had paved the way for the green revolution in the country.

He noted that the Congress government in the state constructed Indira Canteens with an objective of providing food to the economically less privileged people at subsidised rates. “Although the canteen in Virajpet was built long back, it has not been inaugurated due to the negligent attitude of the administration,” said Hosuru.

He also warned of conducting protests if the Indira Canteen is not opened for public within a fortnight.

V P Suresh, member of the District Congress Committee, who presided over the programme, recalled the contributions of Indira Gandhi to the nation.

Leader Tennira Maina, Madikeri Block Congress President Ravindra Appu, Madikeri City Congress Committee President K U Abdul Razaq and Madikeri City Youth Congress Committee President Mandira Sada Muddappa were present.
