Parents should spend quality time with kids: Kirmani

Former cricketer Syed Kirmani speaks after inaugurating ‘Darpana’ at Mangalore University on Monday.

Former cricketer Syed Kirmani stressed on Monday that today’s parents should spend more time with their children and focus on boosting creativity among them.

Speaking after inaugurating ‘Darpana’, a programme organised to felicitate the winners of various sports events, at Mangalore University on Monday, he said that the advanced technology has made everyone captive.

If parents spend more time with modern gadgets, they will not give quality time to their children. Today, there is a need for parental intervention in making children culturally productive. But it is sadly missing these days, he lamented.

Kirmani said that students must get into sports activities. The education institutions are encouraging sports today, he said.

Kirmani, recalling the World Cup performance of India, said that his and fellow player Kapil Dev’s partnership in 30 overs is an unforgettable event. During the final match, the Indian team lost more wickets against a few runs. Despite this challenge, the team managed to win, he added.

Alva’s College, Moodbidri, obtained the highest points to win ‘Kreeda Puraskara’ felicitation. Individual achievers, who brought laurels to the university in various sports events, were also felicitated on the occasion.

National Kabaddi player Prashanth Rai was the chief guest. In-charge VC Dr Kishori Nayak presided over the programme. Registrar Prof A M Khan was present.
