‘Preparations on to set up regional science centre’

Dignitaries at the inauguration of the district-level Parisara Mitra award programme in Chikkamagaluru.

Zilla Vijnana Kendra honorary president A N Mahesh said preparations are underway for setting up of a regional science centre in the district.

"Nine acres of land has been identified for the project," he said.

Mahesh was addressing the gathering during the 'Parisara Mitra' award programme organised by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Zilla Vijnana Kendra at AIT College.

Mahesh said that a blueprint for the regional science centre project was submitted to the government.

Sri Gurukrupa High School in Giriyapura in Kadur taluk was awarded district Parisara Mitra School award. The award included Rs 30,000 cash prize and a certificate. School managing committee secretary Dakshinamurthy and headmaster Dharanendramurthy received the award from dignitaries.

Government PU College, Mallenahalli, Government Lower Primary School, Kyadigere, Government High Schools of S Madapura, Baggavalli, Jodithimmapura, Balliganuru, Mallanduru and Belavadi and Government PU College for girls, Mudigere bagged 'Hasiru Shale' award and Rs 5,000 cash prize each (second prize).

Government Lower Primary School, Chennenahalli, MES High School, K R Pete, Government PU College, Mailimane, Government Model Higher Primary School, Mugulavalli, Government Lower Primary School, Sirimane and Government Higher Primary Schools in Bandigadi, Honagaru, Seethuru, Shettikoppa and Lokavalli received 'Haladi Shale' award comprising Rs 4,000 cash prize each, as the third prize.

AIT University registrar Dr C K Subraya inaugurated the programme. Parisara Mitra programme district manager H M Omkarappa, geologist Mahesh, Zilla Vijnana Kendra president H M Neelakanthappa and environment officer Shwetha were present.
