In a barbaric incident, a 7-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Khursapura village of the taluk late on Monday night.
According to police the girl had come to the village along with her parents for an engagement ceremony.
The suspect, Shettappa Basappa Vaddara, who was sleeping in the same house where the girl was staying, raped the girl in the backyard of the house and murdered her later.
He had disposed of the body in the toilet before fleeing spot. However, the police arrested the suspect and booked him under the Pocso Act. Several organisations staged a protest in Shiggaon condemning the brutal act.
