The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is embarking on ‘Mission VTU–Empower 10000’, a programme aimed at training 10,000 engineering graduates of 2012 and 2013 batches for successful career.

The objective is to imbibe industry-relevant skills, augmenting domain knowledge, soft-skills, leadership skills and other essential attributes among young engineers and prepare 100 next generation academic leaders who can inspire future engineers, said Vice Chancellor H Maheshappa, at a meeting of Training and Placement Officers (TPOs) of engineering colleges affiliated to VTU, here on Wednesday.

More than 150 TPOs from across the State took part in the meeting.
He said the VTU will execute the project in collaboration with the affiliated colleges, industries, training centres, professional bodies and institutes of higher learning.

The VC also announced introduction of ‘internship programme’ for engineering students to enable them gain hands-on experience and skill enhancement opportunities in industries.
“Aim of the programme is to enhance employability skills of students from rural areas. An online web portal would be developed wherein unemployed graduates of 2012 and 2013 batches can upload their details which, in turn, can be used in competency mapping. Graduates will be trained by professional trainers,” he said.
