Monsoon intensifies, covers more districts

The monsoon covered more areas in the state on Saturday.

Suntikoppa hobli in Kodagu district experienced rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in the afternoon. There was drizzling in Napoklu throughout the day.

Mysuru city received heavy downpour for nearly an hour since 4 pm. The roads were inundated, causing inconvenience to vehicle riders.

Parts of HD Kote, Hunsur, and Nanjangud taluks received good rainfall for more than an hour. Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar, Mandya and Hassan districts too received heavy showers. Widespread showers have been reported throughout Gadag district. Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning hit the twin towns of Gadag-Betageri for one hour. There were showers in Nargund too.

A youth who had taken shelter under a tree was washed away in a flash flood in a nallah at Bhutramanhatti in Belagavi taluk on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway on Saturday. His body was found 200 metres from the spot. Imran Nadaf, 22, a resident of Kotabagi village in Hukkeri taluk, is the deceased. Parts of Belagavi district received heavy downpour for about one hour during the early evening hours. A KSRTC bus which was being washed away in rainwater in the city was retrieved by passersby.

Streams overflowing

Heavy rain accompanied by strong wind was reported throughout Kottur taluk in Ballari district on Friday night. The streams and tanks in the taluk are overflowing. Good rains have been reported from Kudligi taluk.

There was heavy downpour in Dharwad city on Saturday evening. Rains accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms lashed the city for more than one hour.

Chittapur and Chincholi taluks in Kalaburagi district received light rainfall on Saturday.

Heavy rain coupled with gusty wind lashed Subrahmanya and surrounding areas in Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday evening. Several houses have been damaged when trees fell on them.
