Murthy's suspension: HC orders notice to Speaker

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly while hearing a petition filed by S Murthy, the suspended secretary of Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

The Advocate General received the notice on behalf of the Speaker.

The Legislative Assembly has taken disciplinary action by suspending Murthy in December 2018, on the charge of committing irregularities.

Murthy had challenged the suspension order.

He was under the scanner after Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar ordered a probe into irregularities in procuring services during the 2017 Belagavi session.

The departmental enquiry had found Murthy guilty, following which his powers were curtailed. It was alleged that Murthy misappropriated funds.
