Moderate rains lashed parts of Mangaluru on Wednesday evening.  With stormwater drains clogged, rainwater was overflowing on the roads, resulting in waterlogging.

In the last 24 hours, Dakshina Kannada district received an average of 39.9 mm rainfall. This includes 53. 3 mm in Belthangady and 40.8 mm in Mangaluru.

On the other hand, the intensity of sand erosion increased in Ullal coast.

Mogaveerapattana, Kotepura, Kaiko, Subhashnagara, Kileriyanagara, Ucchila and Talapady areas are bearing the brunt of sea erosion.

A woman was washed away in floods at Puttur village of Udupi on Tuesday night. The deceased is Suchitra (25). She was returning home after her work when the mishap occurred. The Udupi district has experienced an average of 67 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Drizzle in Kodagu
Though the southwest monsoon has been active in different parts of Karnataka, Kodagu district has been experiencing drizzling for the last one week. The district has been depending on the rain for agriculture activities. Farmers are worried over the delay in advancing of the monsoon.

In the last three years, by June 20, Kodagu district was experiencing the highest rainfall. However, this year, even after 10 days of monsoon hitting the coast, the rain has failed to advance further in Kodagu district.

Talacauvery and surrounding areas have been experiencing only mist for the last 15 days with drizzling. In fact, the Talacauvery Sangama at Bhagamandala was flowing to the brim, last year during the corresponding period.

The district had recorded 755 mm rainfall from January till June 22 in 2015. However, this year it was only 342 mm rainfall. Compared to last year, the district is facing 50% less rainfall till date.

Meanwhile, it rained heavily in Shivamogga district.
