RTE quota seat fiasco resolved after a day

A day after the fiasco over wrong allotment of seats under the RTE quota, the education department on Friday re-allotted seats, much to the respite of harried parents.

Several students from Bengaluru were allotted seats in north Karnataka during the first round of seat allotment. “My child was given a seat in Bidar. After bringing this to the notice of officials, it was changed to Bengaluru,” said Raghavendra, a resident of Konanakunte.

Manju, who had applied for a seat for his son in Ullal ward, got one in Gadag district. “We received the messages regarding the change of allotment,” he said.

According to sources in the department of education, the wrong allotments were due to technical glitches in the software. “About 80 such cases have come to light. We have made arrangements to address the issue,” said the official.
