Rain intensifies in Kodagu, but recedes elsewhere in state

Showers receded in many places in the state on Monday.Though the heavy rain lashing Kodagu district for the last few days gave a break in the morning, the showers gained momentum by evening.

With the increase in water level at the Triveni Sangama in Bhagamandala, connectivity was snapped on Monday morning. As a result, devotees could not visit Talacauvery.

With the Brahmagiri range receiving heavy rain, the district administration has cautioned the devotees visiting Talacauvery. Even Kootuhole, which supplies water to Madikeri town, is full.

Power outage continued in Appangala, Kathalekadu and Ayyangeri, following the uprooting of electricity poles due to gusty winds. Normal life was thrown out of gear in Napoklu hobli on Monday.

The water level in River Cauvery increased at Kottamudi. Water flowed on the road at Bolibane and disrupted the movement of vehicles. Water had also entered the road connecting Napoklu and Moornadu. The water-level in Harangi reservoir stood at 2806.07 feet. Rainfall receded in Virajpet. Paddy fields have been inundated at Kadanooru, Arji and Bittangala villages.

Rain continues to lash the coffee land of Chikkamagaluru. With the waterfalls in the district coming alive, a large number of tourists are visiting Sirimane, Kallathigiri, Hebbe waterfalls, Bababudangiri and Mullayanagiri hill ranges to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Showers receded in Siddapur taluk of Uttara Kannada district, even as the downpour in the past few days left a trail of destruction, due to falling trees. Showers were reported across Mysuru, Hassan and Shivamogga districts.

Rains receded in Dakshina Kannada. However, the sky remained overcast throughout the day. The heavy rain in the last few days inundated Hosamata bridge at Kadaba, which affected schoolchildren and office-goers on the Uppinangady-Subrahmanya stretch.

The torrential rain has increased the water-level in rivers Nethravathi and Kumaradhara in Dakshina Kannada. The water level in river Nethravathi stood at 4.9 metres in Bantwal, while it was 20 metres in Uppinangady. The water level in Kumaradhara stood at 20 metre in Uppinangady. The heavy rain in the Ghats and Subrahmanya on Sunday night increased the water-level in Kumaradhara river on Monday. The bathing ghats in Kukke Subrahmanya were inundated. Even the toilets constructed near Snanaghatta were inundated. As a result, the devotees were seen collecting water in vessel for ‘theerthasnana’. Even the old bridge across Kumaradhara was inundated for some time.

A bridge at Nettana connecting Subrahmanya-Uppinangady-Mangaluru and Subrahmanya-Mardhala-Dharmasthala was marooned. This affected passengers travelling to Dharmasthala and Mangaluru. The water-level receded by noon.
