“There is no abatement in the incidents of lawlessness in Bellary district. This (Tapal Ganesh assault) is yet another case which reflects continued harassments and attacks on political opponents,” he said in the order.

Tapal Ganesh was assaulted on March 29 for allegedly complaining against illegal mining of the Reddy trio on the Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka border. Nayak observed that there were many officers in the Bellary District Administration who take illegal orders and implement the same at the dictation of powerful politicians and officers of the Company owned by Reddy brothers and not function according to law.

He asked the government at the highest level to “review meticulously the goings-on in the administration of Bellary district and root out all those officials, particularly the officers in the Police department of the district unit, who act illegally for extraneous and collateral considerations”.
