State may study Mahadayi award in detail: CM

Last Updated 14 August 2018, 20:55 IST

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday said he would react to the final award of the Mahadayi Tribunal only after studying the 12 volumes of its recommendations.

“I have already held discussions with officers from the water resources department and legal experts. The government will arrive at an appropriate decision only after studying the award in detail,” he said.

Sources in the government said Karnataka may file an appeal in the Supreme Court, seeking additional allocation of water.

“We can’t accept the verdict as it is. Legal experts have advised the chief minister to question the verdict in the Supreme Court. There is, however, no problem pertaining to allocation for drinking water. The government can start works immediately in this regard. But we can’t afford to sit quiet when it comes to overall allocation,” sources said.
