Shivabasavaiah, who was suspended as chairman of Department of Zoology following the charges six months ago, has been given the new post after revoking his suspension, sources said.

Efforts to contact Vice Chancellor V G Talawar and Registrar B Ramu on the development proved futile.

Sarita, a research scholar had accused Shivabasavaiah of sexually harassing her, creating a furore in the corridors of the varsity.

The Women’s Harassment Complaint Committee of the varsity that had conducted an inquiry had also indicted Shivabasavaiah. However, the University Syndicate preferred another round of investigation and had appointed a one-man committee.

The complainant had knocked on the doors of the Governor at Raj Bhavan, besides the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) and also Women’s Commission.

Jayalakshmipuram police, who have registered a case, are still investigating in to the complaint.
