<p>The Congress on Wednesday lodged a police complaint against BJP national president J P Nadda, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Gokak MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi for allegedly inducing voters with money. </p>.<p>A delegation, comprising Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar, lodged the complaint at the High Grounds police station on the basis of Ramesh’s statement that he would offer Rs 6,000 per voter to counter an incumbent Congress MLA’s Rs 3,000. </p>.<p><strong>Read | <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/state/karnataka-politics/karnataka-bjp-leader-says-will-pay-rs-6000-per-vote-sparks-row-1184027.html" target="_blank">Karnataka BJP leader says will pay Rs 6,000 per vote, sparks row</a></strong></p>.<p>“On January 22, 2023, a senior leader of the BJP, former cabinet minister and a BJP MLA, Ramesh Jarkiholi announced in Belagavi that the BJP would pay Rs 6,000 per vote to every voter in the ensuing Karnataka assembly elections. The incident was caught on camera,” the complaint stated.</p>.<p>“This is part of a concerted conspiracy hatched at the highest levels in the BJP with the tacit approval of (Bommai), (Nadda) and state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel,” the Congress charged, calling it “a blatant and brazen attempt to hijack democracy” and sought action against them under IPC Sections 171B read with 107, 120B and 506.</p>.<p>Speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah claimed that the BJP planned to lure voters across the state. “The BJP knows it’ll lose and that Congress will win. Somehow, they want to retain power. Karnataka has five crore voters. If each one is given Rs 6,000, it’ll be Rs 30,000 crore,” he said. The Congress, in its police complaint, also insisted that the Income Tax department and Enforcement Directorate should get involved to “unearth the source of ill-gotten money of Rs 30,000 crore likely to be distributed to the voters of Karnataka.”</p>
