Former deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa has filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking quashing of the criminal proceedings with regard to a defamation case pending before the 81st Additional City Civil and Sessions Court.

The petitioner says that the private complaint filed by Vinod B, advocate and anti-corruption activist, is among a string of complaints filed by Vinod to defame him (Eshwarappa).

Moreover, the private complaint says that it has been filed in vengeance and thus the entire proceedings, which is an abuse of the process of law and court, are liable to be quashed, the petition said.

It said the trial court was, therefore, not justified in entertaining the complaint. The court, on the other hand, took cognisance.
