The tremors lasted for less than a minute at 11.15 am in Hirekeroor and Byadagi taluks.
The mild tremor measuring 2.3 on the Richter scale was recorded at the Earthquake Measuring Centre in Gauribidanur and the epicentre was located in Soraba of Shimoga district. Even on November 27, the tremors, centred in Soraba, were felt in Hirekerur and Hanagal.

On Sunday, panic prevailed in Hamsabhavi, Satenahalli, Abaluru, Yatnalli, Hirekerur, Chikkeruru, Chinnamulagunda of Hirekerur taluk, and Katenahalli and Tadasa of Byadagi taluk as the earth shook and vessels in the kitchens tumbled down. The villagers ran out from their houses and also heard a loud sound, said Kalagonda GP member Prabhakar Hullatti.

Senior Geologist Mohammed Nasrulla told Deccan Herald that the people need not panic over the mild tremors, as they are natural phenomena. However, the villagers, shocked over the tremors which have occurred within a short span, seem to fear that this could be a forewarning of a cataclysm.
