Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda on Thursday barred the state universities from conducting their own entrance examination for the recruitment of the faculties.

He also ordered the competent authority to constitute an inquiry committee if such recruitments were reported in the state-run varsities.

During a review meeting of state universities, the minister said, “We want to put an end to the irregularities being reported during the direct recruitment for the backlog positions. Henceforth, the universities should recruit their faculty through Karnataka Examinations Authority only.”

Recently, Bangalore University had issued a notification for the direct recruitment to fill the backlog vacancies. Also, a few varsities were planning to conduct entrance exams to recruit the teachers.

The department however barred the varsities from doing so.
