Will shelve elevated corridor if people reject it: CM

Last Updated 30 July 2018, 10:02 IST

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, on Monday, said that the government will shelve the elevated corridor project if people do not want it.

“We are here to help people by decongesting Bengaluru City. But if people oppose it, and accept traffic snarls as a way of life, we will let them be. The government will shelve the project,” Kumaraswamy added.

He spoke to reporters at his home office Krishna. He stated that he had held only a preliminary meeting on the feasibility of the elevated corridor with officials, ministers and experts.

He was agitated that people were opposed to this project, like they were in the case of the steel flyover (Basava circle to Hebbal flyover).

He added that all possibilities to decongest Bengaluru-- like metrorail, high speed rail link, monorail, flyover and increasing BMTC services --were being studied.

Defending his brother and Public Works (PWD) Minister H D Revanna’s presence in the meeting, Kumarasamy said: “Revanna is not hijacking the city’s development projects. The elevated corridor is being undertaken by KRDCL (Karnataka Road Development Corporation), a wing of PWD. So he is here.”

Also present on the occasion were Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, Chief Secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar, Additional Chief Secretary Mahendra Jain, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Commissioner Rakesh Singh, Bescom Managing Director Rajendra Cholan, Forest Minister R Shankar and Financial Advisor to Chief Minister Subramanya.
